TA-KU-WA-KAN TI-PI
"Dwelling Place of the Gods"
The Dakota Homeland in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area
by Paul Durand
Illustrations by Rene E Durand
The first of Paul Durand's books, "TA-KU-WA-KAN TI-PI" explains the place-names used by the native inhabitants of what are now the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
Many of the original place-names are still in use today.
This soft cover book was sold with a colorful hand-drawn map.
The map shows the region's primary geographic features, along with their corresponding Dakota place-names.
When a map and book were purchased, Paul would either hand deliver them, or mail them in a cardboard tube so that the map would not have creases.
Many individuals, and libraries, would frame the map for display.
"TA-KU-WA-KAN TI-PI" was published in 1982.
Its 31 pages include many sketches and drawings, and an introduction by Alan R. Woolworth.
